Vintage Look- 50's Blue Ruffle Dress

My moma got me this 1950's dress at an antique show she attended with my pop. She said she couldn't resist it, because it made her think of one that my Grandma Betty had worn when moma was young. It is a pinafore style dress with big ruffled shoulders that I was very unsure of when she gave it to me.
I actually stitched together half of the ruffles to make it much less poufy! The dress is very sweet and I love that the pockets have the same ruffle. I wear it with red because it makes me think of Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ. It kinda makes me want to get my wicker picnic basket and stuff our 19 year old cat inside so I can skip down the dirt road. Except, I think someone would have me committed...
No bouncy pigtails for me though, I did my hair into a twisted crown to show off my earrings.

They are a beloved pair of vintage twist-back earrings- made like little swinging baskets of fruit!
These shoes are my FAVORITE! They are red Hushpuppies that I found on Amazon. I usually buy cheap shoes (doesn't make much sense does it?), but these were so perfect. It was near my birthday and my hubby was fishing for what to get me. Usually it works out that I ask to get something that I have been eyeing, but would never buy for myself. Like these shoes!! And let me tell you, they are comfy. I can wear these all day long and not have a blister or tired feet. And aren't they the greatest color? The exact shade of a red crayon. Happy Sigh ;)

The purse is not vintage even though it looks it. It is a Fossil bag that I found on sale for $12 about ten years ago. It has been a go-to summer bag all these years and still looks great! And the color is perfect, a sort of faded watermelon that goes with both reds and pinks.
In the side view you can see the sweet little cutouts and the sturdy yet comfortable heel of the shoes.
The dress is a gingham cotton with varying rows of "pulled threads" which create an open weave. This dress requires a full slip because that's a lot of see-through. It was made by Greentree and was so loved before it came to me that the size tag is worn blank. Maybe I will have a granddaughter that will want to wear this dress because it reminds her of me!

Do you have any pictures of relatives in clothing you wish you could wear now?
