Vintage Look- 1940's Purple Suit

I found this 1940's wool suit on eBay and fell in love. The seller, terrasita, is a real sweetheart! I don't really dabble on Instagram, but I'm going to have to go look her up at terrasita_vintage. She asked me to let her know when I put up pictures of her suit. Here they are, sugar, even though my pictures can't do it justice!

(Did y'all notice that I am coyly showing you a little pocket? More of a finger-warmer, but still...)
Remember when you learned in school that red and blue make purple? Well, if you ever had a shadow of a doubt, this will lay them to rest. The suit is woven of blue and red strands of wool, and as you can see from the photos, the two combine to make a gorgeous plum color. But I really think it is most lovely from close enough to see the variegation of the two colors. And look at that great purple rhinestone embellishment.
What I adore about forties fashion is that everything was fitted to look tailored and classic. No baggy, boxy suits here.
And the sleeves have the sweetest turned back cuffs with points that flare off the wrists. Heavens to Betsy! Taking pictures inside the house in winter is like taking photos of an albino bat in it's cave! Sorry they are so terrible, but I am not going outside in that cold wind...
Plum is not a usual color for me, but I love it. However, I couldn't figure out what shoes to wear with this. I didn't want to do black, but it might have been a better choice. It would be great if I had some chocolate brown ones. Do you think they would be a better match, or should I try black next time?

    1. Ha! I love that, only those that get in my "private space" bubble get to check out the weave😂. Thanks, dear friend!

The mustard colored shoes are perfect with the plum dress, because they are complementary colors! Violet and yellow are directly across from each other on the color wheel... and the muted colors are perfect for each other. If they were really bright, they could be a little too strong, but they’re not. They’re perfect! Take this from former Gentry HS art teacher! Love your posts!
